Synopsis
An Angel in a Human Body is poetic and intimate documentary portrait of Saint John of Shanghai, one of the lesser-known yet deeply beloved Orthodox saints of the 20th century. Through the personal testimonies of Orthodox priests and monks—eyewitnesses to the miracles of this saint—the film unveils the spiritual power, compassion, and miraculous life of this remarkable man of God.
Blending historical fragments, iconographic elements, and heartfelt witness accounts, the film follows the saint’s path from Serbia and Russia, through Shanghai and Manila, to San Francisco. His relics continue to perform miracles to this day.
More than a spiritual portrait, An Angel in a Human Body invitation to contemplate sanctity in the modern world. It sheds light on a man who lived modestly, served everyone he met, and whose heart knew no boundaries of love.
Authentic and deeply personal, this film brings viewers closer to the living memory of a saint. It is a film about endless love, sacrifice, and faith—about a man who, in the words of Saint Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, was an angel in a human body.
