It is a 1988 movie directed by Sergei Paradjanov. The movie tells the story of a Turkish rhapsodist, inspired by the literary creation of a Russian poet. A minstrel wants to marry his girlfriend, but her father opposes because he is poor and expects rich prospects for his "daughter from heaven". She promises to wait for him a thousand days and nights until she returns with enough money to impress her father. The minstrel sets out on a journey to gain wealth and encounters many difficulties but, with the help of a holy rider, returns to his beloved on the one thousand and first day and is able to marry.
The actors performed their roles in Azerbaijani and their voices were later dubbed into Georgian. It was Paradjanov's last completed film and was dedicated to his close friend Andrei Tarkovsky, who had died two years earlier. The film also presents a detailed portrayal of Azerbaijani culture.
