“Father Iraclie Porumbescu” opens a window into the life of an exceptional soul: priest, writer, and the father of a great composer. Born in 1823 in Sucevița, Iraclie Porumbescu rose from the conditions of rural life, devoted to family and faith, and became one of the key figures of 19th-century Bukovina.

The documentary traces his formative path: his childhood at Sucevița Monastery, his studies in Cernăuți, and the major influences that shaped his literary and patriotic spirit, such as Aron Pumnul and the Hurmuzachi family.

His life as a priest was not only a religious service, but also a social and cultural mission: preaching love for the nation, helping communities in times of famine, organizing practical courses, and defending the Church and Orthodox identity in the face of confessional and national pressures.

Beyond the pastoral and spiritual portrait, the film also highlights his literary side: his poetry and prose evoke the life of the Bucovinian village, belong to the Romanian cultural heritage, and foreshadow the evolution of modern literature in the region.

“Father Iraclie Porumbescu” is a testimony to a life of faith and culture, of balance between spiritual service and social commitment, between tradition and modernity, between the love of God and the love of nation.
