The Jerusalem Prayer

15 July 2026

For millennia, people have been coming to Jerusalem. They come to appeal directly and without intermediaries to the highest authority. They raise their eyes to the sky, or lower them to the earth, or gaze at the fire or the ancient stones of the Wall, and pronounce words. Words of prayer.
And I imagined that one day, these people of different nationalities, religions, and denominations, passing through the gates of the old city wall, would not immediately disperse to their own holy sites, but would gather in one place. They would gather to perform a common prayer, composed of the words of various prayers from the three main religions of this city: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Naturally, each would do so according to their own customs and traditions. But together. And side by side. And no one would interfere with anyone else.
