The action takes place in the first years of rural Romania under the authority of Groza and Maurer: the confiscation/collectivization of the peasants' lands, the abolition of the blanket of intellectuals, the anti-communist resistance (passive and armed), the installation of opportunists and upstarts in power. A battle between 2 worlds, sprinkled with drama at every turn.
