Dmitri Shostakovich’s Dream of Jerusalem, 18 min.
“What will never happen happened once: the composer Dmitri Shostakovich woke up in the 21st century. He visited different countries and cities, met various people, saw different facets of our world, and at the end of his visit, he arrived in Jerusalem. Dmitri Dmitrievich walked the streets of Jerusalem all day and all night, absorbing the spirit of the City. Towards morning, he returned to his hotel and collapsed into a deep sleep, in which the images he saw during his journey and the music he wrote in his past life unexpectedly merged into a single whole.” (Dmitri Brikman)
In the “photo-translation,” fragments from Dmitri Shostakovich's Fourth, Fifth, and Eighth Symphonies were used, performed by the Gürzenich Orchestra of Cologne under the baton of Dmitri Kitaenko.
