The Prayer of Jerusalem, 15 min., 2023
“For millennia, people have been coming to Jerusalem. They come to address the supreme court directly and without intermediaries. They raise their eyes to the sky or lower them to the ground, or look toward the fire or the ancient stones of the Wall, and utter words. Words of prayer. What you are about to see now, most likely, will never happen. I simply imagined that, one day, these people of different nationalities, religions, and denominations, passing through the gates of the old city wall, would not immediately scatter to their holy sites, but would gather in one single place. They would gather to utter a common prayer, composed of the words of different prayers from the three main religions of this city: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Of course, each will do this according to their customs and traditions. But together. Side by side. And no one will interfere with anyone else in doing so.” (Dmitri Brikman)
