Mara Ionescu is a producer, director, and screenwriter at TRINITAS TV, the television channel of the Romanian Patriarchate. In recent years, her work has focused particularly on documentary films exploring spiritual, historical, and biographical themes. Her productions portray prominent figures of Orthodox spirituality, confessors of the faith, and personalities who have left their mark on Romanian history and culture.
An important direction in her filmography is the cinematic rediscovery of the lives of saints and major spiritual figures. She has made documentaries dedicated to Saint Paisius of Neamț and Father Teofil Părăian, and in 2025 she directed a documentary on Saint Arsenie the Confessor of Prislop.
One of her significant projects is The Martyr of the Union (Martirul Unirii), a 2024 documentary dedicated to Hieromartyr Alexandru Baltaga, a prominent figure of the Church in Bessarabia and a participant in the 1918 Union of Bessarabia with Romania. Directed by Mara Ionescu and produced by TRINITAS TV, the film was developed as part of a project carried out in collaboration with institutions from Romania and the Republic of Moldova. It premiered in Chișinău and was subsequently included in the official selection of the 2024 Astra Film Festival.
In 2025, Mara Ionescu wrote and directed the documentary The Nectar of Forgiveness: Saint Nectarios of Aegina (Nectarul iertării. Sfântul Nectarie de la Eghina), a TRINITAS TV production made in collaboration with the Metropolis of Veria, Naoussa and Kampania. The film premiered in Iași during the second edition of the Quo Vadis International Film Festival, where Mara Ionescu attended the screening alongside representatives of TRINITAS TV and Archimandrite Panteleimon Papaemanouil, who played the leading role.
