George Ovashvil, Director Georgia
George Ovashvili is an acclaimed Georgian director, screenwriter, and producer. He graduated from the Film Department of the Georgian State University of Cinema and Theatre in 1996 and the directing program at the New York Film Academy, Hollywood, in 2006. He made his debut with the short films Wagonnet (1997) and Eye Level (2005). His first feature film, The Other Bank (2009), premiered at the Berlinale and won over 50 international awards, including being nominated for the European Film Awards. Corn Island (2014) won the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary and was shortlisted for the Oscar in the foreign language film category. In 2017, Ovashvili completed his trilogy about the recent history of Georgia with Khibula, which was presented in the main competition at Karlovy Vary. Beautiful Helen (2022) premiered in Trieste, and The Moon is a Father of Mine (2025) was released at Tallinn Black Nights. In 2018, he founded Wagonnet Films in Tbilisi, producing films with a focus on international co-productions.
